International Account Controller

"There are ever more opportunities to make promotion internally."
Jules Spijker

Since January 2006, Jules Spijker has been working as European Account Manager at Corporate Express. In May 2008, his job title changed to International Account Controller. Jules is part of the International Accounts Team that serves more than 200 international clients of Corporate Express.

"Actually my job is a combination of project management and account management. As soon as we conclude a contract with a new client, it is my task to see to it that my colleagues from the various country organisations implement this contract. The objective of the implementation is that the client in the countries concerned order all office supplies through Corporate Express. As more countries are implemented, my role gradually shifts from that of project manager to account manager, as which I am the contact for the international procurement department on the client's side. I travel a lot within Europe and this makes for long business days, but it's not that I am only working. Among other things, I jog three or four times a week, I make time for that; an ideal way to relax."

"As far as personal development is concerned: if you want to attend a course or training that is relevant to your position, there are certainly opportunities to do so. For example, I followed a course on project management in London at the beginning of this year. Furthermore, I was able to attend courses in sales and personal skills. Currently I don't know yet what my next career move will be. I do think about it, but at Corporate Express there are many options, not only in the field of sales and account management, but also in other interesting fields."
