We support actively a number of initiatives with regard to art and the preservation of cultural heritage with a focus on projects in and around Amsterdam that have an international scope. Therefore we are proud that, partly due to our participation, we made it possible last year to get the London Symphony Orchestra, directed by Sir John Eliot Gardiner to Amsterdam.

Sir John Eliot Gardiner is the founder and artistic director of the Monteverdi Choir and the English Baroque Soloists. Alongside the activities with his own ensembles, John Eliot Gardiner appears regularly as guest conductor with the most important European symphony orchestras.

The extent of John Eliot Gardiner’s repertoire is illustrated in over 250 recordings made for major European record companies, which have received numerous international awards. Over the years Gardiner has won more Gramophone awards than any other living artist. At the age of fifteen John Eliot Gardiner started conducting and took lessons from Thurston Dart and Nadia Boulanger.

Born in Norway Leif Ove Andsnes studied with the music academy in Bergen. The career of Norwegian pianist Leif Ove Andsnes has attracted considerable interest and excitement since his international debut in the early 1990s. He is a devoted chamber musician and is often a guest for giving solo recitals on the world concert stage. In 2000 he received the London Royal Philharmonic Society’s Instrumentalist Award. The pianist is co-artistic director of his own festival in the Norwegian city Risør.

Concert Hall
The Concert Hall in Amsterdam is one of the most famous concert halls in the world and is praised for its perfect acoustics. The construction of the Concert Hall was completed in 1888 and by now it has been the classical music centre of the Netherlands for more than a century, where 650 concerts are given on an annual basis.
